Liverpool’s activity in the transfer market so far this summer has been extremely limited, with highly-rated Greek full-back Kostas Tsimikas the only signing made so far. A recent report by the UOL (h/t Daily Mirror) though, has clarified that the Reds are close to completing the signing of prodigious Brazilian goalkeeper Marcelo Pitaluga from Fluminense.
The report suggests that Liverpool are on the verge of securing his signature and that we could offer him a significant pay-rise. Despite being 17, the youngster is yet to make his first-team debut for the Brazilian side, but that hasn’t stopped Liverpool from making their interest felt.
Although the issue with most young players is acquiring a work permit, the fact that Pitaluga holds a German passport will make the process a lot less complicated than usual. (h/t Daily Mirror)
It has further been confirmed that the deal itself is edging closer to completion every day, and that the Brazilian outfit are negotiating the final details. (h/t Daily Mirror)
Fluminense seem to rate their player so highly that they are reportedly keen on inserting a sell-on clause in the contract. What that would do is allow an agreed-upon percentage of any future transfer fees to go to Fluminense, in the event of Liverpool cashing in on him. (h/t Daily Mirror
)Born in 2002, Marcelo Pitaluga has spent the entirety of his playing career with the Brazilian giants. Despite being contracted to the club until the summer of 2022, the Reds’ interest has understandably forced the club to sell in order to generate some cash. (h/t Daily Mirror)
Despite holding a German passport, Pitaluga has vowed his loyalty to Brazil, and currently represents the Brazilian U17 team at youth level.
Still only 17-years old, the Brazilian offers a strong presence in between the sticks, as his reflexes and ability to read attacking play are right up there with the best.
Boasting enough potential to develop into the next Brazil number one, it would be a smart move by Liverpool to acquire him and nurture and develop him into the kind of player they require. With no apparent competition for his services as well, signing him certainly won’t be the worst idea.
