Liverpool mull over the possibility of Rhian Brewster sale

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool are considering the possibility of selling youth prodigy Rhian Brewster this summer, amid serious interest from several Premier League clubs.

The 20-year-old has been heralded as one of the best prospects to have come through the club’s academy in recent years. However, he has had to bide his time to break into the first-team.

Brewster spent the second half of the 2019/20 campaign out on loan at Swansea City. And the Englishman made a huge impression, almost driving the Swans back to the Premier League, only for them to falter at the Playoff semi-finals.

Back at Liverpool, the youngster’s first-team prospects don’t look all too bright at the moment, however. Although, he did make a substitute appearance in our FA Community Shield clash against Arsenal, missing the decisive penalty in the shootout.

Nevertheless, his situation has caught the attention of a number of Premier League clubs, with as many as six making their interest known. Among those are Aston Villa, Sheffield United, Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion. (h/t Sky Sports)

In fact, it has even been claimed that Newcastle have made an approach for the England youth international. But it is likely to have been turned down by Liverpool as his first-team opportunities would have been limited at the St. James’ Park, following the signing of Callum Wilson. (h/t Express

As things stand, Liverpool are yet to take a final call on Brewster’s immediate future. But the report claims that a sale with a future buyback clause is a possibility. In contrast, another report from Football Insider (h/t Express) insists that Liverpool have no desire of letting Brewster leave this summer.

Brewster’s situation currently is far fro ideal. The 20-year-old needs regular game time in order to continue his development. And while that is unlikely to come at Liverpool currently, selling him, even with a buyback option, wouldn’t be the best move.

Ideally, a loan move to a club where he can get regular minutes is what the club needs to look at. It remains to be seen what decision the club takes in the coming weeks.
