Liverpool’s attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have achieved wonders for the club over the last few seasons. Despite this, it must be conceded that there is a serious lack of depth running through Jurgen Klopp’s roster. One of the players that they have been targeting to address this concern is Watford attacker Ismaila Sarr, as has been reported by The Telegraph (h/t Liverpool Echo ).
One of our biggest boons last season was the amazing fortune that we had with injuries. The likes of Salah and Mane stayed fit for massive chunks of the season. And this allowed us to display the required degree of consistency right from the start.
In the upcoming season, as good as our frontline will be, the challenge posed by the teams around could make things a lot more difficult. More importantly, one single injury has the potential to cause turmoil in this Liverpool team. Losing one of the front-three would have dire effects, with the minimal number of alternatives available for selection.
Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri form the two names that have been utilised, while last season’s winter signing Takumi Minamino is yet to really have an impact. The Japanese speedster could still come good for us this year, but depending on an unproven name like that certainly won’t ease any nerves.
Ismaila Sarr isn’t a player that foreign to followers is the Premier League. The Senegalese winger is among the most exciting talents in the English game right now. And the roof of his potential is absolutely sky-high.
The youngster has already, in his short time in the Premier League, proven that he’s got what it takes to deliver at this level. Moving the a club like Liverpool could unlock all that hidden talent and add consistency to his play.
With a massive season ahead of us, moving for Sarr definitely won’t be the worst idea. The youngster proved his worth last season by putting in some match-winning performances, while his ability to produce scoring situations out of nothing resemble the talents of Mane.
Sarr is probably a more direct and unpolished version of the Liverpool attacker, and in time, could turn out to be the perfect player for Klopp’s dynamic attacking setup.
