Liverpool to stay patient until January in Thiago chase

Speaking on The Transfer Show on Sky Sports, renowned journalist and TV Pundit Kaveh Solhekol has just provided a fresh update on Liverpool pursuit of Thiago Alcantara.

Solhekol claims that Liverpool are willing to play the waiting game with regard to the Thiago transfer, so as the ensure that they’re not required to pay a transfer fee. To that end, the club might wait till January to make a swoop for the Spaniard with the midfielder able to sign on a free transfer next summer.

Thiago is in the final year of his current contract with Bayern Munich. Once he enters the last six months of the deal in January, the Spaniard will be able to negotiate with foreign clubs over a pre-contract agreement for a summer transfer on a free. And Solhekol reckons Liverpool could follow that route if there is no agreement with Bayern.

Bayern Munich were eager to keep him at the club beyond the summer midway through last season. They even offered the former Barcelona man a contract in the latter stages, only for the Spaniard to decline stating that he was looking for a different challenge. (h/t Express)

Solhekol has also claimed

that Barcelona are in for the Munich man’s services, and that the prospect of returning to the Nou Camp could be an attractive one for the 29-year-old. He further claimed that we are yet to make any sort of official move for the Spaniard’s signature, and that any prospective deal would require the sale of a midfielder first.

Barcelona’s lingering interest in Georginio Wijnaldum could hence have a telling impact on how this transfer pans out.
