Liverpool keeping tabs on Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria
The number of players that Liverpool have serious been linked with this summer is extremely limited, and a lot of that could be down to the market situation owing to the Coronavirus pandemic. Not only has this deadly disease brought routine life to a standstill, but it’s also caused the footballing world to slow down drastically.
If a club like Liverpool are continuing to scout a player even through this predicament, then Jurgen Klopp must see something special in his talents. The player in question is Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria.
A recent interview given by Christian Falk to Empire Of The Kop, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, claims that the Reds are maintaining an interest in the highly-rated holding midfielder. It has further been suggested that Liverpool could make a move to bring the Swiss starlet to Anfield ahead of the 21/22 Premier League season.
Contracted to the Bundesliga side until 2022, next summer could present us with the best opportunity to lure him to Merseyside.
The Reds aren’t overly strong in the midfield department, with the likes of Naby Keita and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain unable to deliver any level of consistency. Although Jordan Henderson’s work-rate and attitude has papered over a lot of the cracks, it’s unlikely that the Englishman will be able to deliver the same level on a weekly basis.
Depending on one player like that would be asking for trouble, and it’s an area that Klopp will be eager to address. Although Fabinho was sensational upon arrival, the Brazilian’s defensive frailties have gradually begun to come to light.
Despite being a strong presence and a good passer of the ball, the midfielder hasn’t managed to deliver the goods on a consistent basis. Moreover, of late, he has shown a tendency to go missing in the bigger matches, as was seen in our disappointing FA Cup defeat to Chelsea in the second part of last season.

Denis Zakaria is a defensive midfielder by position, in that he’s adept at sitting in front of the centre-halves and offering added protection. Capable of reading opposition play and making the necessary interceptions, the Swiss giant could be well-suited to the feisty nature of Premier League football.
Standing at 1.9m tall, Zakaria’s physical presence could be a massive boon to Liverpool as well. Signing him could be seen as a priority for next summer, and given the skill-set he boasts, Klopp’s interest doesn’t come as too much of a surprise.
