Liverpool set to sign Diogo Jota from Wolves for £41m on a five-year deal

As reported by The Independent, Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers star Diogo Jota in a deal worth £41m, with the player signing a five-year deal. The transfer fee could rise up to £45m based on performance-related bonuses.

The Portuguese forward has been an integral part of Wolves’ attacking system for a while now. His link-up play and dribbling abilities are right up there with the best, while the attacker even has a keen eye for goal.

Not only does Jota have the beating of most defenders in the world, but he also has the knack of efficiently keeping the ball in tight situations. The 23-year-old’s performances for the Portugal national team have been impressive too, with the forward getting his first goal for the country in the recent international break.

With four caps under his belt playing for a team filled with top-class players all over the pitch, there’s no need to question the speedster’s overall quality. 

The recent acquisition of Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara has undoubtedly come as a massive boost to Liverpool. Up until a couple of days ago, Kostas Tsimikas remained the only player the club had acquired this summer.

Although we finished atop the league table by a comfortable margin last time out, hoping for an entirely unchanged roster to deliver the same thing, while the teams around us have all strengthened, would be pushing it. This is where Jota could come into the picture.

Jurgen Klopp has reportedly been a long-standing admirer of the Portuguese forward’s abilities, with his versatility and general work-rate standing out. 

Despite being a winger by position, Jota has often been deployed as part of a front-two with Raul Jimenez. This would give Klopp an alternate option to Roberto Firmino leading the line if required as well.

Signing him, on the back of Thiago’s transfer, would cap off an excellent week for us in terms of transfers. With Jota, we will have adequate quality and depth in the attacking third as we go about our defence of the league title.
