Joe Gomez picked up a knee injury while training for England but Liverpool believe he will return before the season ends
Liverpool believe that Joe Gomez could return to action before the end of this season.
The 23-year-old centre-back suffered a serious knee injury during England duty and is out of action during the international break.
Gomez has a history of serious knee injuries during his Liverpool career and there were fears his season could be over.
However, Sky Sports claims that Gomez has been handed some hope that he could play later in the campaign.
Specialists doctors assessed his knee on Wednesday and gave him the news. This will come as a bit of a boost as the youngster tries to get back to fitness.
The report adds that plans for his treatment and recovery haven’t been finalised yet.
Racking up the injuries
This will come as a huge blow for Jurgen Klopp as we are already without Virgil van Dijk.
Trent Alexander-Arnold also pulled up in the 1-1 draw to Manchester City and he isn’t with the England team during the international break.
Klopp has some tough decisions to make ahead of our next game. We play Premier League leaders Leicester and our defence will be tested by the likes of Jamie Vardy and co.
Joel Matip and Andy Robertson are the only recognised first-team defenders who are fit right now. The Reds also have seen several midfielders pick up injuries, with Thiago and Fabinho missing the last few games.
Klopp will have to put up a makeshift defence against the Premier League leaders, and it will be interesting to see who he chooses.

Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams could feature in the heart of the defence. However, we could also see the likes of Jordan Henderson or Georginio Wijnaldum play in those positions.
