Bayern Munich aren’t interesting in letting David Alaba leave despite Liverpool interest

Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their hopes of signing Bayern Munich defender David Alaba, according to Bild (h/t Express).

The Austrian is in the final year of his contract and has become an integral part of Bayern.

Bayern are the current Champions League holders and Alaba played a huge role in getting them that title. However, the 28-year-old will not be allowed to leave in January, even if there is no solution to his contract problems (h/t Express).

Hansi Flick, the Bayern Munich manager, deems Alaba as an important member of the side and isn’t keen on letting him leave in the winter window (h/t Express).

Liverpool have been hit hard by defensive injuries this season. Virgil van Dijk is expected to be out for a while. However, things were made worse recently as Joe Gomez also picked up an injury. Reports suggest it is a serious issue.

Jurgen Klopp has further headaches in the defensive department, with Trent Alexander-Arnold picking up a muscle injury in the 1-1 draw at Manchester City.

That leaves just Joel Matip as the recognised senior centre-back in the team. Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips have played this season and would have to step up if Gomez is out.

A versatile defender to solve many issues

The 28-year-old joining the Reds would solve a lot of our current problems. Alaba can play as a left-back and has featured on the right flank too.

The Austrian is also a great midfielder and would cover a lot of bases for the Reds. Our midfield has been hit with injuries too this season. Naby Keita, Fabinho and Thiago have all spent time on the treatment table.

Foreign clubs can negotiate with Alaba from January ahead of a free move in the summer. However, landing him in the winter window would be a great step given the scenario we are facing in defence and the midfield.
