Blow for Klopp as key Liverpool superstar once again tests positive for Covid-19 – Set to miss Leicester clash

Mohamed Salah out against Leicester after another positive COVID-19 test

According to Liverpool Echo, Mohamed Salah has tested positive for COVID-19 for the second time and will miss the game against Leicester City. The winger has been in self-isolation since November 13 after he tested positive for the virus in Egypt.

The two-time Premier League Golden Boot winner was on international duty and trained 3 days with Egypt. Salah tested positive for COVID-19 in the days following his brother’s wedding ceremony, which he attended.

The Egyptian has now moved into a hotel in El Gouna, where he is currently quarantining. (h/t Liverpool Echo)

Egypt Ministry of Health’s head of COVID committee was hopeful that Salah would return a negative test the second time, as he did not show any symptoms. However, the Egypt FA confirmed in their statement yesterday that Salah has returned a second positive test.

Salah has been vital to our team’s attack. He has the most league goals

in the Premier League player this calendar year. The Egyptian also leads the goalscoring charts this season with 8 goals.

Premier League regulations state that a player must self-isolate for 10 days after their first positive COVID-19 test. If the player returns a negative test after that period, they will be allowed to reunite with their squad. Salah will not feature for us this weekend as the Leicester match falls within the purview of the 10-day period.

Despite injuries to key defensive personnel, Salah’s goals and assists have ensured Liverpool are still within 1 point of the league leaders. (GETTY Images)

The Egyptian is also a doubt for the Champions League clash against Atalanta on 25th November. However, if the Egyptian returns a negative test after the 10-day mark, he will rejoin the Liverpool squad.

The news would come as a disappointment to Jurgen Klopp as the club has already been reeling with injuries and fitness issues recently. Salah’s unavailability means that we may see the fit Diogo Jota start in his place.
