Fritz Keller indicates trust in Low amidst link with Jurgen Klopp for Germany job

Liverpool fans’ fear of losing Jurgen Klopp to Germany can rest easy for the near future as Mirror

report that the German FA will keep Joachim Low until the summer. After a 6-0 thrashing by Spain in the UEFA Nations League group stages, fingers were pointed at coach Joachim Low.

The German national team manager is expected to stay in charge until at least the UEFA Euros next summer. Jurgen Klopp has been viewed as the ideal man to manage Germany after Low, with Lothar Matthaus even claiming before the match that Liverpool’s manager is the “only man” fit to replace the current German boss. The Reds’ fanbase has been nervous ever since Klopp indicated his openness last year to replace Joachim Low at Germany’s helm.

“I could not say one hundred percent if I was the right one. If the question ever arises, I would think about it – but not now.”

Those fears can take a temporary backseat as Jochim Low received a vote of confidence from the German FA president Fritz Keller. In the statement released by the FA, Keller admitted that while the defeat was hard to take, the team will bounce back.

“We had a black evening in Seville yesterday that hurt. The spectators at home, me, the coach, the players. I was in the dressing room after the final whistle and I felt everyone’s extreme disappointment – but also the will to correct this situation.”

Keller also explained how the collective decision to field young players may contribute to such results in the future. He further added that such a decision is important in order to create a strong team for major international competitions in the next 4 years.

“We made the conscious decision to make the change with many new and young players with perspective. This path, as you saw yesterday, can be rocky and also lead to painful defeats.”

“…Our challenge continues to be to form a strong team for the next three major tournaments: the European Championship next year, the 2022 World Cup and the European Championship in our own country in 2024.”

Keller’s comments about the European Championship in 2024 may also hint towards the fact that Low will be entrusted with the process of taking the German team into a new era.

Coincidentally, our manager’s contract ends in the same year. Klopp signed a contract extension in December 2019, which saw him extend his stay at the club until 2024. There has been no strong indication that Klopp would extend his stay further, but we must cherish what we have right now.
