Loan Watch: Blackburn coach offers the latest update on injured Liverpool starlet

Tony Mowbray says the injury to Harvey Elliott does not look serious

Speaking recently about the incident (h/t Liverpool Echo), Blackburn manager Tony Mawbray says that the injury to Harvey Elliott in the Championship match against Preston North End on Wednesday does not seem serious at first glance.

The on-loan winger was rested for the first time this season by Blackburn in the Championship but came on around the 60th-minute mark when the Rovers were leading by 2-0 while also being a man up.

Elliott’s pass was vital in setting up the third Blackburn goal but a tackle on him 5 minutes later from ex-Everton midfielder Ryan Ledson saw him hobble off the field.

However, Tony Mawbray hopes that the injury isn’t serious and mentions that there are no signs of it being a ligament injury.

“The early news is that we hope it’s just a kick,” he said after the game. “It’s come up pretty quickly, a bruise, but it doesn’t look like it’s badly damaged. When you think of a knee injury you think of ligaments but it doesn’t seem to be anything like that. Just a pretty severe kick and we’re hoping that’s all it is.”

Mawbray also explained the decision to drop Harvey Elliott for the first time this season after signing him on loan from Liverpool in October.

“The eight first-team players we have unavailable we need to get them back as soon as we can. Rovers scored three unanswered goals, and in doing so, kept a sixth clean sheet of the season.”

Elliott joined the Rovers on a season-long loan in October 2020 and has since started in all Championship games but one. The 17-year-old winger already has 4 assists and 1 goal this season in all competitions and has impressed with his displays.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane not getting any younger, we can hope that Harvey Elliott is the one to take up the mantle and carry forward their legacy at the club in the coming years.

Blackburn Rovers face Barnsley on the 28th November and Tony Mawbray would be hoping that Harvey Elliott would be fit for selection.
