Liverpool keen on signing AS Roma defender Roger Ibanez

According to a report by Italian news outlet AS Roma Live (h/t Express), Liverpool want to sign AS Roma centre-back Roger Ibanez.

Liverpool had an array of injuries this season. Star defender Virgil van Dijk is out for the season with an ACL injury. On top of that, Joe Gomez is also out of action for a lengthy period of time.

Fabinho Tavares has filled in at centre-back in the duo’s absence. However, the sheer impact of the injury crisis at the club was apparent when Jordan Henderson had to play in defence in the second half against Fulham.

While youngster Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips have impressed so far, Jurgen Klopp wants a long-term solution. Roma centre-back Roger Ibanez is the latest name to be linked with a move to Anfield.

Ibanez joined I Giallorossi in the summer on a loan move. However, that deal will become permanent at the end of this season.

The Brazilian played for Atalanta last season and impressed several big clubs with his performances. Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were two such clubs who made an attempt to sign the 22-year-old this summer. (h/t Express)

Ibanez has had a solid start at Roma. He has started all 12 of their Serie A games, even managing to keep 4 clean sheets in the process.

The young Brazilian is a major reason behind AS Roma being 4th in the league table, level on points with defending champions Juventus.
