Liverpool fans react to Takumi Minamino scoring an amazing goal on his Southampton debut
Takumi Minamino scored an amazing goal against Newcastle United on his Southampton debut, just a few days after joining the club on loan from Liverpool.
The Saints travelled to St. James’ Park to take Newcastle United. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s confidence in the new signing was evident as Minamino was in the starting XI.
The game got off to a bad start for the visitors as Joe Willock and Miguel Almiron put the Magpies 2-0 up within 26 minutes. However, Southampton’s Japanese forward brought them back into the game.

Minamino took an excellent first touch inside the Newcastle United box amid a pool of defenders, and followed it up with a thunderbolt strike with his left foot.
The ball nestled into the top right corner and Southampton were back in the game. However, they would go onto lose the game.
Liverpool fans jubilant for Minamino
Newcastle had a man sent off and they ended the game with 9 men, as Fabian Schar had to be withdrawn due to an injury 10 minutes before time.
Almiron scored his second of the day deep into first-half stoppage time to make it 3-1. That proved to be enough for the Magpies as James Ward-Prowse’s 48th-minute goal proved to be nothing more than a consolation. (h/t BBC)
Liverpool loaned Minamino to the Saints in the closing stages of the January transfer window. Despite the Saints’ loss, the Reds fans were more concerned with Minamino’s goal.
Fans took to Twitter to exhibit their joy for Minamino, with some wanting the former RB Salzburg man to return to Anfield already.

On one hand I’m annoyed we loaned out Minamino as he didn’t get a proper chance, but on the other hand I’m happy he’ll get game time and get to know the league at Southampton.
