Liverpool and Manchester United in touch with Fiorentina for Nikola Milenkovic transfer
A report by Italian outlet Gazette Dello Sport (h/t Express) mentioned that Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic is destined to join the Premier League when he leaves his club, with Liverpool and Manchester United both interested.
The two Premier League clubs are ‘in touch’ with the Serie A side over the transfer. The 23-year-old’s current contract at La Viola is set to run out in the summer of 2022 unless he renews his deal.
In light of that, Fiorentina want to part ways with him this summer as they do not want to risk losing him for free next year. The Florence-based side are looking for a fee in the region of £30million for him.
The Serbian centre-back is expected to be at the heart of a ‘tug-of-war’ in the summer. However, Sky Sports (h/t Express) mention that German side Borussia Dortmund have also made ‘first contact’ with his agents.
A good option at the back?
The report also mentions that Manchester City are keen on the former Partizan Belgrade man. Milenkovic has been a regular fixture in Fiorentina’s side this season, as he has been in the past couple of years.
He has played in 21 out of their 23 Serie A games where he has scored twice and assisted once. He also appeared in the Coppa Italia, where he captained his team twice. (h/t transfermarkt)
The interest from the Reds comes after they signed two defenders on deadline day in January. Ben Davies joined from Preston North End, while Ozan Kabak joined on loan from Schalke 04.
The 20-year-old Turkish international can be bought for £18million by Liverpool in the summer. However, a move for Milenkovic is also on the cards.
