Liverpool physio defends the medical department publicly after injury record is criticized by fans

Writing on his Twitter account (h/t Mirror), Liverpool physio Chris Morgan defended the medical department publicly after the club’s torrid injury record and asked fans not to confuse ‘correlation with causation.

The club has had one of the most shocking injury records of all teams in England this season. Senior centre-backs Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, and Joe Gomez have all suffered long-term injuries.

But that is not all. Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain among others have also encountered injuries.

This has derailed the club’s season. The title charge has now become a scrap to finish in the top 4, with the Reds outside the UEFA Champions League spots.

But the club’s physiotherapist Chris Morgan thinks fans are wrong to blame the medical department.

“Don’t be nasty. Don’t tweet nonsense. Don’t confuse correlation with causation.”

He mentioned that a lot of people make up the medical department, and just 2 of them ‘happen to run on the pitch’. Morgan then added why he thinks the club has so many injuries at the moment.

“It’s complex and multi-factorial. The ones we can’t prevent (and we’ve had lots) then impact the ability to try to prevent others. We still have to put 11 players on the pitch every 3-4 days after all.”

Some fans have pointed the finger at him but as he himself said, the medical department has a whole orchestra of people.

And even then, blaming just them for such a complex issue is unfair as it could ignore other factors such as fatigue, hectic schedule, or just bad luck.
