Liverpool discover transfer price for Raphael Varane but face PSG and Manchester United competition
A report by OkDiario (h/t Express) states that Real Madrid are open to selling defender Raphael Varane at the end of the season as transfer links to Liverpool continue.
Los Blancos have reportedly slashed his transfer fee down to £43m, believing that the Frenchman is past his best and not the same without Sergio Ramos.
Ramos’ own Madrid future is uncertain at the moment. The Spaniard’s contract runs out in the summer, but it is Varane who has drawn the interest of several clubs.
The report states that Liverpool and Manchester United are admirers of the 27-year-old, while PSG have joined the race to sign him. Varane joined Real Madrid from Lens all the way back in 2011.
Three-way battle
His current contract with Madrid expires in the summer of 2022. United could make a move for him in the summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to find a partner for Harry Maguire at the heart of their defence.
But Jurgen Klopp also wants a world-class partner for Virgil van Dijk. It would be interesting to see what unfolds regarding Varane’s future. (h/t Express)
Liverpool could certainly use a centre-back at the moment with their senior centre-backs all out of action due to injury. However, all of them are expected to re-join the squad before the summer transfer window begins.
Nevertheless, a winner like Varane could only bolster the club’s defence. The French international has won the World Cup with France and is a 4-time UEFA Champions League winner with Los Blancos.

Liverpool, however, would have to be wary of the Red Devils if they want to sign the defender. Varane is a long-term transfer target for United and with PSG also in the mix, it could complicate matters.
