Liverpool-linked Argentine midfielder makes an admission about future at Serie A club

Transfer News: Rodrigo De Paul gives verdict on Udinese future as Liverpool links continue

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic (Subscription Required) via Futbol Insider [h/t Liverpool Echo], Rodrigo de Paul said that it will not be ‘easy’ to leave Udinese, as transfer links to Liverpool continue.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Merseyside. And Jurgen Klopp has earmarked him as one of the potential replacements for Georginio Wijnaldum if he leaves. (h/t Liverpool Echo

The Dutchman is yet to renew his Liverpool contract that expires this summer. Wijnaldum has been one of Klopp’s regular starters this season and has stayed free from any major fitness issue in what has been an injury-hit season for the Reds.

But De Paul has now come out to say that leaving Udinese will not be easy for him as it is a ‘family’ at the club where everything is provided so that the players can concentrate on football.

“There’s been a lot of talk. But I’m relaxed about it. My focus is on the next game. It’s not easy to leave here. At Udinese, it’s a family, the club provides you with everything even the simplest things so you can concentrate on your football.”

A good replacement?

De Paul joined the Serie A side from Valencia in the summer of 2016. But this season, his league tally of 9 goals and 10 assists has really made him one of the best midfielders in Italy right now. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Replacing Wijnaldum with someone like De Paul would be an instant upgrade. The Argentine is younger and can also chip in with goals and assists from midfield, something which has been lacking this season for Liverpool.

His comments about Udinese above show that he is not ruling an exit outright, and that should be a good sign for the Reds.
