Transfer News: Liverpool interested in signing Saul Niguez
According to transfer news from the Empire of the Kop (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are considering making a swoop for Atletico Madrid and Spain midfielder Saul Niguez in the summer.
Saul is a product of the Atletico Madrid youth setup and has been on the club’s books since 2008. After a loan spell away at Rayo Vallecano in 2013/14, the midfielder has been a permanent fixture in the lineup for Los Rojiblancos, growing into a key member of Diego Simeone’s team.
This past season, though, the 26-year-old was somewhat in and out of the lineup at the Wanda Metropolitano and managed just 22 La Liga starts, although he did play a hand in Atleti winning the league title.
Nevertheless, there are strong speculations surrounding his future heading into the summer transfer window, with reports claiming that Atletico are ready to sell him for a fee of £40m. And this has seemingly alerted Liverpool, who are now pondering over making a move for the 19-time capped Spanish international. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
With Georginio Wijnaldum on his way out of the club following the expiry of his contract, there is certainly room for a new central midfielder at Anfield. More so, when one factors in James Milner’s age and the fitness issues that have plagued Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
And Saul could, thus, be a viable target for the Reds to look at. At 26, he has best years in front of him while he has shown his quality at the highest level with Atletico for years now.

Able to play in a multitude of roles in midfield, he could prove to be quite a shrewd addition, especially if he is indeed available for £40m price that is being mentioned. Something worth looking into for Liverpool.
