According to transfer news by the Yorkshire Evening Post (h/t The Mirror), Liverpool are yet to make any contact with Premier League side Leeds United for Raphinha.
There were rumours that linked the Reds with making a £32million bid for the Brazilian. However, that is apparently not the case and Liverpool are yet to approach Marcelo Bielsa’s outfit for Raphinha.
The winger joined Leeds from Rennes last summer in a £17million
move. Since then, he impressed over the course of the season at Elland Road and has now caught the eyeballs of the big boys.It is mentioned in the report
that there is no ‘official contact’ between the clubs for Raphinha. The 24-year-old has a contract that runs until the summer of 2024, which would give the Royals an upper hand in any negotiations. This would obviously come as a blow to many Liverpool fans who were looking forward to the winger potentially linking up at Anfield in the summer. Even if the Reds don’t manage a deal for him, a winger seems like an important buy in this window.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane would both join their international teams for AFCON at the start of next year. The January-February period is an important phase in the season and that is when Klopp would benefit from good quad depth.
Even if the duo weren’t off to AFCON, a deal for Raphinha would make sense for other reasons. He can very well be the successor to either Mane or Salah, and could even give them fierce competition for starts from the get-go.
But it remains to be seen if the Reds formalize any potential interest they might have in the player.
