Struggling Man United star tipped to move to Liverpool as Wijnaldum replacement

Transfer News: Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek tipped to move to Liverpool

Speaking to Veronica Inside via Sport Witness (h/t Liverpool Echo), former Ajax winger Sjaak Swart opined that Donny van de Beek could move to Liverpool amid his lack of game time at Manchester United.

There is no hiding that the Dutch midfielder has struggled for starts under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He started just 4 league games for the Red Devils ever since his move from Ajax last summer.

And due to this, he is linked with a move away from Old Trafford in order to find more playing time for himself. This is why Swart stated that a move to either Liverpool or Bayern Munich would be suitable for him.

Donny van de Beek tipped with a transfer to Liverpool from Manchester United to better his career.

“…at United they have 8 or 9 midfielders, and you have to intervene, then it takes time. That is a choice he has to make himself, whether he feels like he needs to leave. I am not worried about him. He would fit right in with other clubs. If I look at Liverpool and Wijnaldum is leaving now, he will be a wonderful replacement. Or for Thomas Müller, at Bayern Munich”

Could we buy from our rivals?

His comments make sense. There would not be as much competition for starts at Liverpool for Van de Beek especially after Georginio Wijnaldum’s move to Barcelona was tipped to happen in the summer.

The dependable Dutchman ran out of his contract and will not be a Liverpool player next season. A player who made over 50 appearances for the club this season would obviously need replacement – whether it comes from within the squad, or in the form of a new signing.

Van de Beek’s pedigree cannot be doubted. He was an important part of Ajax’s run to the UEFA Champions League semi-final in 2019 and the 24-year-old still has a lot of years left in him.

But it remains to be seen if the two clubs can come to an agreement considering the rivalry between them. The last player to move between the two clubs directly was Phil Chisnall back in 1964.
