According to reliable journalist and transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is on the cusp of completing a transfer to French heavyweights PSG.
Wijnaldum has been with Liverpool since 2016, having joined from Newcastle United, who had just been relegated from the Premier League at the time. Over the years, the 30-year-old has grown into one of the most pivotal members of Jurgen Klopp’s squad, playing an integral role in the club’s UEFA Champions League and Premier League triumphs over the past couple of years.
However, Wijnaldum’s time at Liverpool is fasting drawing to an end, with the midfielder’s contract expiring at the end of this month. And, the Dutchman has decided not to renew and is, instead, headed for the French top-flight, where he will be joining PSG.
For the longest time, it seemed as Wijnaldum would be reuniting with former Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman at Barcelona. However, he has changed his mind at the last moment and has instead agreed to join PSG, Romano confirms.
The Italian journalist has also claimed that Wijnaldum will be signing a three-year deal with Les Parisiens, putting pen on paper to a contract till 2024. The Dutch midfielder is yet to complete a medical but Romano explains that all formalities are expected to be done and dusted in the next few hours.
In his five years at Liverpool, Wijnaldum has given the fans a lot to cherish. The 30-year-old is set to depart after having made 237 appearances for the Reds, scoring 22 goals and setting up 16 more.
