According to Anfield Central (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are preparing a late proposal to try and beat rivals Manchester United to the transfer of Jadon Sancho.
The 21-year-old has grown into of the most exciting young wingers in the game since moving to Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in the summer of 2017. Sancho enjoyed his most prolific season in 2019/20 and after a slow start to the 2020/21 term, ended the campaign on a strong note.
Sancho finished with a tally of 16 goals and 20 assists from 38 games in all competitions, helping the Black and Yellows secure a top-four finish in Bundesliga and win the DFB Pokal.
Manchester United are intent on signing the 21-year-old, who has become a permanent fixture in the England squad as well, this summer. But Liverpool are hoping to swoop the winger away with a late proposal for the former Manchester City starlet.
Dortmund are hoping to recoup £82m for their prized asset this summer. And, as per the report, Liverpool chief Michael Edwards, through intermediaries, has submitted a proposal to the Germans which would see them make a sum total of £90m
spread across three seasons. But what would appeal to BVB is that there are zero add-on clauses included. The report further goes on to mention that Sancho would be willing to earn lesser wages than he might at United by moving to Liverpool. The Reds’ boss, Jurgen Klopp, though has dismissed the possibility of any big-money signings in the summer already.
A generational talent, Sancho would certainly boost the Liverpool attack a great deal. His signing would also take a major burden off the shoulders of star man Mohamed Salah. Whether the Reds are willing to stump up the necessary money for his signing would be interesting to see, though.
