According to Anfield Central (h/t Leeds Live), Liverpool can sign Leeds United winger, Raphinha, for as little as £27m. This is £5m lesser than his previous quoted valuation of £32m.
Raphinha has undoubtedly impressed Leeds fans as well as neutral onlookers with his first season in the Premier League. He still has three years left on his Leeds contract that runs until the summer of 2024. The club signed him from Stade Rennais for a meagre £17million
last summer, and it is already paying dividends for them. The Reds can do with wingers, to be honest. The club currently house two of the top wingers in Europe in Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane – but the duo is not immune from bad form or injuries.
In the event of that, Diogo Jota cannot cover two positions at one time and it would wise for the Reds to sign someone who can play down the flank, preferably on the right-hand side as direct competition for Salah.
Moreover, AFCON is set to begin in January 2022. The Egyptian Salah and Senegalese Mane are both expected to join their respective national teams for the tournament.
But that is a vital part of any team’s season and can derail the Reds’ campaign if they do not have an idea of how to cover for their departing wingers. That is where Raphinha could help them.
However, you can imagine that Marcelo Bielsa may not make this an easy negotiation for any potential suitors. With three years already on his deal, the Whites would like to think that they would hold an upper hand in any potential negotiations.
But if the aforementioned fee is something that the two clubs can agree on, then the 24-year-old can prove to be a very shrewd piece of business by Michael Edwards and co.
