Speaking in an interview (h/t Liverpool Echo), Takumi Minamino has opened up on his future at Liverpool this summer, amid interest from Premier League and Bundesliga clubs.
Minamino arrived at Liverpool in the January transfer window of 2020 from Austrian outfit RB Salzburg. However, the Japanese international found it tough to break into the starting XI at Anfield. Indeed in his first year at the club, the 26-year-old managed just 31 appearances, bagging four goals
.Having been starved for opportunities at the club, the versatile forward left Liverpool for Southampton on loan for the second half of the 2020/21 season. Minamino did show signs of promise during his tiem at St. Mary’s, although he made just ten appearances, in which he netted twice.
With his loan deal now out of the way, Minamino is expected to rejoin the Reds on the pre-season tour next month. However, the Japanese ace is attracting plenty of interest from clubs in England as well as Germany.
Quizzed about his future at Liverpool, the 26-year-old admitted
he was unsure as to what lies ahead. But, the Japanese forward did insist that he wanted to join the Reds and do his best for the club.“I don’t know what will happen, but for now, for the preseason, I’d like to go back to Liverpool and do my best there.”
Having been used sparingly during his time at Liverpool, Minamino hasn’t really had the opportunity to showcase his full array of abilities. But with the Reds likely to lose Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for the AFCON later in the season, holding onto the Japanese could come in very handy.
