Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher signs new long-term contract

As confirmed by the club’s official website, goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool, committing his future at Anfield.

Having started out his career with the academy of Irish outfit Ringmahon Rangers, Kelleher made the switch to Liverpool’s youth setup in 2015. The goalkeeper rose through the ranks at the club, making over 50 appearances for the U-18s and the U-23s combined.

Kelleher made his first-team debut for Liverpool in the FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town in February last year and has since featured eight more times for Jurgen Klopp’s side, keeping four clean sheets.

The 22-year-old drew praises for some of his performances in goal last term during the absence of first-choice stopper Alisson Becker. Now, the young Irishman has been rewarded with a new long-term contract by the Merseyside giants.

“I am happy to get it over the line and finally done; it was in the pipeline for a few months with negotiations and stuff, so I am delighted to get it done.

“For me, it was a positive moment to commit my future to the club for the next few years. It’s such a big club and it’s an honour to be a part of it, so when I got the chance to sign for a few more years I was obviously delighted.”

There had been speculations (h/t  TWTD) that Kelleher could be leaving Liverpool on loan for the next season. However, The Athletic’s James Pearce

has claimed that 22-year-old will be the No. 2 at Anfield going forward, ahead of Adrian, who also signed a new contract.
