According to The Athletic, Liverpool have set an asking price of £15m for defender Nat Phillips, who is courting a lot of interest from Premier League clubs.
Phillips has been with Liverpool since 2016, having signed from the academy of Bolton Wanderers. Having spent time with the Reds’ reserve outfit, the centre-back was loaned out to Eintracht Frankfurt for the 2019/20 campaign.
Phillips, though, was recalled by Liverpool in January last year, following which he made his first-team debut in a cup tie, before again leaving for Frankfurt for the rest of the campaign.
And, following a solid year in Germany, the 24-year-old got his shot at regular first-team football at Anfield last term, although, it was largely due to the injuries to frontline defenders Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip. Even though there were some early jitters, Phillips put on some remarkable displays, especially towards the backend of the season to help Liverpool clinch a top-four finish.
However, following the arrival of Ibrahima Konate this summer, and the return to fitness of the aforementioned defenders would mean he is likely to fall down the pecking order at Anfield. While Jurgen Klopp is keen
on keeping him at Anfield, he is also aware that Phillips wants to play regularly. As a result, Liverpool are now willing to accept any suitable offer for Phillips, even if they are reluctant to do so. The Reds want a transfer fee of £15m for the 24-year-old, with Burnley one of the Premier League clubs showing a strong interest in the Englishman.
As things stand, it seems like Phillips could well be on his way out of Anfield this summer. It remains to be seen whether Burnley or any other interested parties are willing to meet Liverpool’s asking price, though.
