Transfer News: Liverpool could sign Otavio imminently

According to transfer news from Daily Star, Liverpool could seal the deal for Otavio. The Brazilian has a £34m release clause that expires at the end of this month, meaning the Reds could fast-track a move for the Porto midfielder.

Liverpool lack creativity in the middle of the park. They don’t have that natural playmaker in the side that can crack open defences. Add to that the departure of Gini Wijnaldum and one can see that a new midfielder might just be required.

Chelsea s midfielder Ben Chilwell L vies for the ball with Porto s striker Otavio R during the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg soccer match between Chelsea FC and FC Porto at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium in Seville, Andalusia, Spain, 13 April 2021.

Otavio might not boast of great numbers in front of goal but the fact remains that he is an effective playmaker. Over the last season, he accrued 12 assists in 42 games in all competitions. He also has the knack for getting the odd goal. Otavio was a central part of Porto’s Liga NOS win in 2020.

Now, Liverpool have shown interest in signing the Brazilian playmaker. However, they are in a bit of a race against time. Otavio has a £34m release clause that will expire at the end of this month. Liverpool are said to be in ‘advanced talks’ over a transfer. However, that release clause will shoot up to £51m if they sign him after June.

Hence, the Reds are running short of time to agree on a deal. They have very limited time and will need to expedite the talks if they are to get Otavio at his original and reduced release clause. The Reds will be hoping they can do so and add a fine playmaker to the side.
