Liverpool fans react as Rafael Benitez set to become Everton manager
According to Sky Sports, former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is set to be named as the new head coach of local rivals Everton.
Benitez has written himself in Anfield folklore after leading Liverpool to the historic 2005 UEFA Champions League victory in Istanbul. The 61-year-old Spaniard spent a total of six years with the Reds, winning an FA Cup as well, along with the European trophy.
Benitez left Liverpool in 2010, following which he had stints at Inter Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Newcastle United, while he also spent time in the Chinese Super League. However, the 61-year-old is now set to return to the Premier League, to take over the helm in the blue half of Merseyside.
Benitez will be replacing Carlo Ancelotti, who left the club to return to Real Madrid earlier this summer. The ex-Liverpool boss is set to pen a three-year contract with the Toffees, with an official announcement expected on Wednesday. (h/t Sky Sports)
Liverpool fans took to social media to react to the news of Benitez’s imminent appointment as the manager of Everton. There were a few who were left fuming by the Spaniard’s decision while some fans claimed that ‘Agent Rafa’ was switching sides to take the Toffees further down.
