Liverpool confirm pre-season squad ahead of Austria tour as Virgil van Dijk is named
According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have announced their 34-man pre-season squad for their tour in Austria where Jurgen Klopp’s side will start preparations for their new campaign.
The first day of training will get underway in Salzburg on Monday, 12th July. New signing Ibrahima Konate is a part of the 34-man list, and so is Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutch defender suffered a serious injury last year in the Merseyside derby. Instead of going to the Euros, Van Dijk opted to stay back and recover for the season ahead.
And it seems like he will be back to action soon, at least on the training ground. Details of Liverpool’s warm-up games and broadcasting list will be released in due time.
Ready for the new season
Assistant manager Pep Ljinders stated his expectations from the pre-season training camp as the club looks to get back to winning ways in terms of silverware.
“We look forward to going to Austria again for the start of our pre-season. All the conditions to prepare the team there are just at a very high level. We will use this to go back to basics. When you ask a lot from your players you have to give a lot as well – and we find all of this in Austria.”
The 34-man squad, which also includes the name of Liverpool outcast Loris Karius, is as follows (h/t Liverpool Echo):
James Milner, Adrian, Ben Davies, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip, Nat Phillips, Divock Origi, Ben Woodburn, Rhys Williams, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Kostas Tsimikas, Caoimhin Kelleher, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones, Taiwo Awoniyi, Marko Grujic, Harvey Elliott, Loris Karius, Takumi Minamino, Jake Cain, Leighton Clarkson, Marcelo Pitaluga, Harvey Davies, Billy Koumetio, Owen Beck, Kaide Gordon, Mateusz Musialowski, Tyler Morton, Conor Bradley.
