Transfer News: The one hurdle stopping Marko Grujic moving from Liverpool to FC Porto

According to a report by Sport Witness via Record (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool, FC Porto, and Marko Grujic are all in favour of the midfielder securing a transfer move to Portugal.

But Liverpool’s valuation of the Serbian international is proving to be the one major hold-up. Porto are believed to ‘baulking’ at the £14million price tag as they look to sign Grujic on a permanent deal.

He is with the Reds in Austria for their pre-season training camp but could change his club ahead of next season. Grujic spent the last season out on loan at Porto, making 23 appearances for them.

That was his fourth loan move away from Anfield since he joined back in 2016. It is clear that the 25-year-old does not have an immediate future under Jurgen Klopp.

Grujic exit stalled

He was signed by the German manager during his first transfer window at Liverpool for a £5.1million fee. Things haven’t gone to plan for either Grujic or Liverpool, but the Reds are still looking to make a profit on him.

Georginio Wijnaldum is not going to be with the club next season after running down his contract, but Grujic is most certainly not the man the fans would want taking up the Dutchman’s role in the midfield.

The Serbian does not have enough Premier League experience and has never even made a top-flight league start for the 19-time English first-division champions.

The ideal situation for the Reds here would be to make a profit on Grujic and invest that money into any potential incomings during the summer window. But it remains to be seen if the two clubs can come to an agreement for Grujic before deadline day.
