Liverpool Transfer News: Rangers and Celtic join Divock Origi pursuit

As per a report by 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo), Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic have joined a long list of clubs after Liverpool forward, Divock Origi.

The Belgian striker’s time at Anfield seems to be over, considering he just made three starts last season for the club. Rangers manager Steven Gerrard and new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou want to bring the striker to Scotland.

The Old Firm rivals may not have it easy if they want to formalize their interest in the 26-year-old. The report mentions interest from ‘abroad’ for the former LOSC Lille man, and also stated Crystal Palace, West Ham United, Southampton, and Newcastle’s interest in Origi.

The Belgian international, who made himself a household name during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, failed to displace Roberto Firmino from the starting XI on a regular basis despite the Brazilian’s underwhelming output in front of the goal last season.

Origi can leave LFC

It can’t be denied that Origi was a huge part of Liverpool’s run to the UEFA Champions League title in 2019. But that was two years ago, and he has failed to impress on a regular basis since then.

A move to a Premier League side would mean not having to cross borders, but a transfer to Glasgow is also not a bad option for Origi considering the interest in him comes from two top Scottish clubs.

If Origi does leave, the Reds would be down to bare bones in attack. Diogo Jota, who primarily plays as a winger for club and country, would then be the only senior backup for Firmino at Liverpool.

Hence, any move that sees Origi leave should take into account the void he can leave on their bench, and how to deal with that situation.
