Transfer News: Liverpool make contact with Wolves for Pedro Neto
According to 90min (h/t The Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have contacted Wolverhampton Wanderers regarding Pedro Neto.
The 21-year-old is one of the finest young players in the Premier League. He came into his own last season following the sale of Diogo Jota to Liverpool the previous summer.
Neto joined Wolves from SC Braga in the summer of 2019 and has since evolved into a key figure for the Pack. His time at the Molineux has seen him maintain an upward trajectory before injury cut short what was a promising 2020/21 campaign.
Capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, Neto would be an excellent addition to the Liverpool frontline. He will add strength in depth to an area of the squad that will need rebuilding sooner than later. If he does progress as expected there is no reason why he cannot succeed Sadio Mane on the left flank.
The Reds however will not have a free run at landing the Portuguese ace. Both Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the player. The latter is currently managed by former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo and it remains to be seen if this will hand Spurs an advantage.
Wolves the new Southampton?
Liverpool pulled a quick one on their rivals by landing Diogo Jota last summer. He proved to be an astute buy and scored a number of key goals throughout the campaign. Hopefully, Neto too will have a similar impact if the deal goes through.
Those close to the player believe he has no intention of quitting the Molineux. Neto played a key role in close friend Francisco Trinaco joining Wolves on loan earlier this summer. It would be a surprise to see him move on following that.
Liverpool are also keeping tabs on Adama Traore and Ruben Neves.

One can never say never in the transfer market. Whether Liverpool can fork out the cash needed to convince Wolves to sell Neto remains to be seen. The Reds are also interested in his teammate Adama Traore. Of the two, it would be prudent for us to go for the former given his age and untapped potential.
