Steven Gerrard responds to rumours linking him with the Liverpool job

One of the greatest players in Liverpool history, and current Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has dismissed rumours of him coming back to manage the Reds. 

The former Liverpool midfielder made 504 appearances across 17 seasons for the Reds while he also scored 120 goals and provided 92 assists before retiring in 2016.

In 2018, Gerrard was officially announced as Rangers manager after spending some time working at Liverpool’s academy

. Earlier this year, Gerrard led Rangers to their first Scottish Premiership title, and it was heralded as an incredible achievement as it was their first league title in 10 years. They also ended the prolonged dominance of Scottish rivals Celtic.

While both Jurgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard are committed to their respective clubs until 2024, there has been speculation regarding whether Gerrard will return to Anfield sometime soon. 

In an interview with ESPN (h/t Liverpool Echo), Gerrard talked about how he does not enjoy the links to Liverpool.

I can’t control any media speculation about my position,”

“I don’t welcome it; I don’t add to it. All I do is focus on the job I have here and I’m very flattered and grateful for the position.

Gerrard went on to talk about how happy he is at Rangers and his future plans for the club.

“I’m very happy here, I’ve said it on numerous occasions, it’s a huge club, I’m settled, I’m happy and I can continue to develop and keep trying to push this team forward.”

Additionally, Jurgen Klopp has also previously reiterated how he plans on seeing out his contract until 2024.

Thus, there do not seem to be any immediate managerial changes at Liverpool, who are ready to go again this season as they look to challenge for the Premier League this season.
