Why Liverpool duo Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri missed the game against Hertha Berlin

Liverpool faced Hertha Berlin on Thursday in a pre-season friendly, however, Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi failed to make the cut to face the German outfit. 

According to the Liverpool Echo, Origi was not involved in the game due to a minor injury. Xherdan Shaqiri was left out too, as speculation regarding his future at the club continues to grow.

Shaqiri has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with the player also making his intentions clear to the club earlier this month.

Additionally, with Italian giants Lazio interested in signing the player, it might not be long before Shaqiri leaves the club. 

Divock Origi, on the other hand, albeit injured for the game against Hertha Berlin, could also be on his way out of the club this summer. The 26-year-old Belgian has been linked with Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic, with both clubs keen on signing the forward this summer.

Apart from the Old firm rivals, the player has also attracted interest from abroad and the Premier League as well, with Southampton, Newcastle, and Crystal Palace monitoring the player’s situation at Liverpool, according to 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Thus, it remains to be seen whether the two players will ever feature in a Liverpool shirt again.

The attack needs depth in quality but there’s not much that can be done when it comes to providing game time to all players involved. There’s only room for 11 players on the pitch and Klopp has his task cut out in deciding what to do with the fringe players.
