Liverpool learn how much they will have to pay for Renato Sanches this summer
According to L’Equipe via Sport Witness (h/t Daily Star), Lille have informed Liverpool that they will have to pay €35million or roughly £30million to sign Renato Sanches this summer.
The 23-year-old, who won the European Golden Boy award in 2017, joined Lille from Bayern Munich in 2019 and he helped the French side win the Ligue 1 last season. The Portuguese made 23 Ligue 1 appearances for Lille last season and contributed 4 goals from midfield, while he also featured for Portugal at the Euros.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are very interested in signing the midfielder this summer, especially after they lost Gini Wijnaldum to PSG earlier in June. Although Liverpool already have the likes of Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, and Curtis Jones in the midfield line, they could be open to the idea of adding a player of Sanches’ quality to the squad.
Moreover, with Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson’s injury woes last tern, Renato Sanches could certainly come in handy if Klopp plans on providing the aforementioned duo with some rest over the course of the season.
However, Liverpool are not the only club chasing Sanches’ signature this summer, with Arsenal also interested in signing the Portuguese. The Reds, however, would have the advantage of providing Sanches with Champions League football, something Arsenal cannot.
Sanches, who has horrid memories from his time in England with Swansea, could be willing to turn a new leaf and start a new chapter with Liverpool. However, bringing him to Anfield would cost the Reds €35million.
Apart from Sanches, Liverpool have also been interested in signing Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, Borussia Monchengladbach’s Florian Neuhaus, and Hoffenheim’s Christoph Baumgartner. However, it remains to be seen who the Reds will sign to bolster their midfield this summer.
