Liverpool star Andrew Robertson set to miss the start of the 2021/22 season

Liverpool played a pre-season friendly against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday, during which Andrew Robertson was brought off the field due to an injury. The Scottish left-back twisted his ankle minutes before halftime.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had suggested post the match that the player will undergo scans to determine the extent of the injury.

Now, Robertson has provided an update on the said scan on social media. In the statement, the Scottish left-back said the injury is not too major. However, there is damage in the ligament which needs to be fixed.

“Thanks to everyone for the kind messages and support. Scan suggests nothing too major but there’s some ligament damage which will need to mend. I will be grafting every day so I can help the team again sooner rather than later.”

Robertson was seen in crutches and protective leg gear in the image he uploaded with the post.

Who should replace Robertson?

The club suffered badly from injuries last season. Long layoffs for the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson ruined their ambitions.

However, Liverpool should cope with Robertson’s injury. The player should be back soon. Until then, the club has Kostas Tsimikas on their books. The Greek full-back impressed during Liverpool’s recent pre-season friendly against Osasuna. Other than him, James Milner can also fill in at left-back spot.
