On Aurelien Tchouameni

Aurelien Tchouameni is a product of Bordeaux’s academy. Growing up the ranks he made his first-team debut in 2018. He went on to make 37 appearances for the French team.

Monaco signed Tchouameni in 2020. He did not need much time to establish himself at his new club. Amid rumours of Chelsea interest in the recent past, teammate Cesc Fabregas was full of praise for the 21-year-old.

The former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder suggested that Tchouameni can play anywhere in the midfield. However, needs to work on his final actions.

“He can play as a No.6 alone, as a defensive midfielder, as a No.8, in a double 6. What he’s doing now, even in a year’s time, he could become a good No.10 if he wanted. He’s got the power to get into the box. He needs to improve his final pass.

Such high praise from an elite midfielder indicates the potential that Tchouameni possesses. He has established himself under Niko Kovac at Monaco and is now on the radars of Liverpool.

Do Liverpool need Tchouameni?

Midfield looks like an area where Liverpool could improve. The club’s current crop includes Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Thiago Alcantara and Curtis Jones.

Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain have had their fair share of injuries. James Milner is not getting any younger while Henderson is also returning from a lengthy injury layoff. Furthermore, the Reds need to fill the void left by Gini Wijnaldum’s departure.
