According to transfer news from Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo) West Ham United have initiated talks with Liverpool for the signing of Divock Origi. The London club are pushing for a cut-price deal for the Belgian.
The report adds that the player signed a long term deal in 2019. Origi has three years left on his current deal. However, his future at Anfield is uncertain. It suggests that £15m could prove to be enough to test Liverpool. The Reds were willing to sell the player for £20m
earlier. However, no buyers were willing to pay that.As mentioned above Origi still have three years left on his contract. Liverpool are known for being on the right side of a deal. Hence, Origi could find it difficult to move out unless a club meets the Reds’ valuation.
A move out does make sense for the player. Divock Origi has had his moments at the club. However, he has struggled for a consistent run of games. At 26, the Belgian is approaching his prime and needs regular first-team action.
A move to West Ham might be ideal, in that respect. The club finished off their brilliant last season with a Europa League finish. Someone like Origi, who has experienced the big stage, could come in handy for the Hammers.
Liverpool on the other need to be careful. The club could end up keeping the player due to many reasons. Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have not been to their best recently. Origi’s versatility means he could cover both positions. The club would also be well aware of the fact that Mane and Mo Salah would miss out in January due to AFCON.
