Liverpool make contact with the representatives of Jeremy Doku
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool hold an interest in Rennes’ Belgian winger Jeremy Doku. The Reds have made progress in pursuit of the forward and are now in direct contact with his representatives.
In fact, it is also claimed that Liverpool could start negotiations with Rennes soon. However, the journalist does add that Jurgen Klopp’s side have to let someone go before bringing someone new. (h/t Liverpool Echo)
“I can confirm Liverpool are targeting Doku and that if everything goes well, they will go further with Rennes. They are already in touch with their sports agency regarding him but they need to make space before making an offer.”
The report lines up with Jurgen Klopp’s quotes. In an interview with TV2 (h/t Liverpool Echo) the manager hinted that they could sign a new player. However, not before cutting someone from their squad.
“You have to make changes from time to time, but then there must be room to do it. We do not want more players. If something happens somewhere, something can happen somewhere else, but it makes no sense to add more players.”
The room for Jeremy Doku
Regardless of whether Liverpool let anyone go or not, there could still be space for Jeremy Doku. The club’s current crop in the attack includes the likes of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah, Diogo Jota, Takumi Minamino, Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi.
Both Mane and Salah would be unavailable during the crucial month of January due to AFCON. While Jota has shown good early signs, it would not be fair to put all the load on him.
Doku could be the player that Liverpool can count on during this period. The 19-year-old can terrorise defenders with his pace and trickery. While the goal output is not there yet, there is plenty of time to develop.

Liverpool need to move fast in the window. Their rivals have already made big moves in the market. While Doku might not go straight into the playing eleven, he would still be a solid signing. The player could go on to develop into the heir to Mane or Salah a few years down the line.
