Ahead of their Premier League opener, Jurgen Klopp spoke to the media about the future of Jordan Henderson. Klopp dismissed the rumours that the club captain could leave. He added that the situation will be resolved soon, thus hinting that an extension is on the cards.
“It is important but it will happen. We will sort it, however it will be. We will sort it out, no doubt about that.
“It will get sorted. I spoke to him yesterday (Thursday) and it looked like [it would be signed], yes.”
Jordan Henderson’s contract dilemma was first reported by the Athletic. The report described the situation as “complicated”. It suggested that his current deal expires in 2023.
However, the latest suggests that both parties have resolved the situation.
Jordan Henderson’s new contract could be huge for Liverpool. Technically, he might not be the best midfielder in the squad. However, qualities like leadership and intensity, which Henderson brings, is second to none.
He could be essential for other players who could potentially break into the first-team through the academy. Trent Alexander-Arnold has praised Henderson for helping him settle into the team. The right-back suggested that the midfielder asked him to not be afraid of making mistakes. Thus, helping him become a better player.
“He made me not be afraid to make mistakes, and not feel as though I’m not as talented as the other lads.
“After that I wasn’t overthinking asking for the ball… so I’d take more risks and, by doing that, I became a better player.”
