Mohamed Salah set to extend Liverpool stay

A report from Goal (h/t Liverpool Echo) has reported a positive development in contract negotiations between Mohamed Salah and Liverpool. The report suggests that the Reds have made extending Salah’s contract a priority. The club are now confident about the player extending his stay at Anfield.

The report suggests that his current deal expires in 2023. Liverpool recently extended the contract of Virgil van Dijk until 2025. It came after the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson Becker and Fabinho signed their long term future with the club. Salah’s new contract is labelled as a “lucrative” one.

How important is this for Liverpool

Liverpool signed Salah in 2017. The Egyptian has since done unimaginable things for the club. So far, he has racked up 125 goals and 47 assists in 203 appearances for Liverpool.

There have been times when his strike partners Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have struggled with form. Both player have found themselves out of the first eleven from time to time. However, that has not stopped Salah from doing his thing. No signs have suggested that the club have even tried to bring a replacement for Salah.

The 29-year-old has been the centrepiece of the club’s success in Premier League and the Champions League. During the club’s 2018/19 Champions League winning campaign, he scored 5 goals.

Going into this season, he does have a lot of expectations riding on his shoulder. Salah’s form could be the deciding factor in Liverpool winning a major trophy.
