Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool do not need to sign any more players this summer
According to The Mirror, Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are ready for the new season and are not planning on making any more additions to the squad.
Liverpool, who wrapped up the signing of Ibrahima Konate earlier this summer, are supposedly done with their summer business. Jurgen Klopp has reiterated that his side do not need anybody else, and they already have the required players to compete this season. He said (h/t The Mirror):
“We do not want more players. Unless something happens, it makes no sense to add more players.
“Everyone expects some player signings, (but) let’s go through the squad. Do you want to buy a new fullback? A new goalkeeper? We already have good players there.
“If you want to buy such players, you have to spend a lot of money. We do not have to do that, because the players are already here.”
This is quite a U-turn considering that the Reds have been in the market for a central midfielder this summer while they were also targeting a forward. Liverpool are facing the prospect of losing Xherdan Shaqiri this summer, leaving a vacant spot in the frontline.
The club have been linked with Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic this summer, but it does not look like the club are going to sign one of these players this summer.
While Liverpool already had considerable depth in the midfield, the promotion of Harvey Elliot to the first-team has been a bonus, and it does not like the midfield would need any more additions this season.
Liverpool’s injury-prone backline last season has also been revived by the return of Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk, and Joel Matip, while they also added Ibrahima Konate to their ranks.
However, only time will tell whether the Reds have enough in the tank to compete for the biggest titles again this season.
