Jamie Redknapp believes that Liverpool should sign Youri Tielemans this summer
According to Sky Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo), Jamie Redknapp feels that Liverpool need to sign another central midfielder this summer and has named Youri Tielemans as his top prospect.
The Reds, who won their season opener against Norwich, fielded the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, and James Milner in midfield while they also brought on the likes of Fabinho and Harvey Elliot.
After the game, former Reds star Jamie Redknapp talked about how Liverpool need another quality midfielder in their ranks. He told Sky Sports (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“Liverpool have to get a midfield player in. That’s a major blow, losing Wijnaldum, and I don’t think they’ve got the capability of actually replacing him right now.
“Who you get is incredibly difficult: I always look at Liverpool as buying the best players.
“I would go for [Youri] Tielemans – I would do everything in my power to get him into the club. He’s a Liverpool type of player.”
Redknapp also addressed the issue that Leicester are not a selling club anymore but Liverpool should push to sign the player as that is ‘where they are short’.
The Belgian has been linked with a move to Anfield all summer, and given that there is a vacant slot in the midfield line due to Gini Wijnaldum’s departure, the player could fit in seamlessly at the club.
Although the Reds still have Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson to return to the squad, both players have either become 30 this year or last year, indicating that there is a need to bring a little youthful approach into this Liverpool squad.

Moreover, the duo was also injury-prone last season, leaving the Reds short in midfield on occasions. Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to avoid these issues this season, and if they do end up signing Tielemans, it would only boost their chances of competing on all fronts this season.
