Liverpool are not keen on a return for Philippe Coutinho this summer

According to Gazzetta (h/t The Express), Liverpool are not eager to bring back Brazilian superstar Philippe Coutinho back to Anfield this summer as Barcelona look to offload the player.

Coutinho, who signed for the Reds in 2013, became a fan favourite at the club as he was known for his impressive performances from the No.10 position. However, in 2018, the Brazilian decided to join Barcelona as it was his dream club, and the Catalonia-based side recruited the player’s services for a whooping £135million.

Things have, however, not gone according to plan for Coutinho at the Nou Camp. Since his arrival in January 2018, the Brazilian has only made 90 appearances for the club and has scored 23 goals and provided 14 assists in that time.

To that end, the club are now ready to let the attacking midfielder leave this summer. However, Liverpool have ruled themselves out from being considered a destination for the 29-year-old.

While the player could still revive his career at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp’s current system at Liverpool do not necessarily function with a No.10 right now and Sadio Mane alongside Diogo Jota offer good depth down the left-hand side.

Thus, a move back would not really benefit any party besides Barcelona, who are in urgent need of cash. While Liverpool have made their stance clear on Coutinho, the Reds have not conducted a whole lot of business this season.

The club’s only signing has been 22-year-old Ibrahima Konate from Leipzig. However, the Reds have been interested in procuring a central midfielder this summer to fill the vacant slot left by Gini Wijnaldum.

The club have been linked with the likes of Florina Neuhaus, Renato Sanches, and Yves Bissouma, but it remains to be seen who the club sign by the end of the summer transfer window.
