Real Madrid are eyeing a humongous bid for Kylian Mbappe amidst Liverpool links
According to Cadena SER via Four Four Two (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe this summer as Real Madrid are eyeing a £102million bid for the Frenchman.
Liverpool, who have been linked with the player on and off, might now lose ground in the race to sign the French superstar after it was revealed that the player is expected to make a decision on his future on Monday.
If Liverpool fail to bid for the player, the Spanish giants could have a free run at the player. Earlier this month, the Merseyside outfit were touted to sign the Frenchman on a free transfer next summer as his current deal with Paris Saint-Germain will expire in 2022.
Moreover, if Mbappe refuses to sign a contract at the club but remains at the club beyond the summer, he will have an opportunity to enter into pre-contract agreements in January with foreign clubs which could entail him joining the said club on a free transfer at the end of this season.
Liverpool have been on the lookout for an attacking addition this summer with the likes of Jeremy Doku, Ismaila Sarr, Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa linked with the club. Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his frontline as he faces the prospect of Xherdan Shaqiri leaving the club.
However, if the club do manage to land Mbappe, he would be expected to start given his talent. Moreover, the 22-year-old could prove to be a key signing in the future as both Salah and Mane will get on the wrong side of 30 in a couple of years.
