Transfer News: Liverpool receive blow in chase for Harvey Barnes
According to transfer news from The Athletic (subscription required), Liverpool have received a blow in their chase for Harvey Barnes. The English winger is close to signing a new deal with Leicester City after his consistent performances for the Foxes.
The 23-year-old is a product of Leicester’s youth academy that he joined aged 9. Barnes was still in the U-23s when he was loaned out to MK Dons in 2017. Upon his return, he was promoted to the first team but was immediately sent on loan to Barnsley. A similar loan deal followed in 2018 to West Brom. Again, he was recalled midway through the season.
Following his West Brom stint, he was handed a chance to stake a claim in the first XI. He grabbed it with both hands and refused to let go. Barnes has since developed into a key player under Brendan Rodgers, although he did miss a large chunk of the last season due to injury.
Barnes has kept impressing for the side over the last few seasons and as a show of faith, he will be offered a new and improved deal. This is despite his current deal running for three more years. This will surely come as a blow to Liverpool who have admired the player but did not send any formal offers.

The new and improved contract is a statement from Leicester to any side wanting Barnes. He is not for sale and his value to the side is now much higher. Liverpool could have used a lively player like Barnes in the side. However, they will have to walk away empty from this.
