Transfer News: Liverpool receive Houssem Aouar boost but face Arsenal, Spurs competition

According to transfer news from French outlet RMC Sport via Get French Football News (h/t Liverpool Echo), Olympique Lyon have put Houssem Aouar up for sale amidst links with Liverpool.

The France international has been linked with the Reds, alongside Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. But he is now on the transfer list after a decision from the club’s Director of Sport, Juninho.

The report states that the Lyon chief wants to sort out an ‘attitude problem’ in the dressing room. And due to this, Aouar, along with Marcelo and Thiago Mendes are put up for sale.

It is also claimed that the central midfielder could leave for a price that is lower than quoted previously. This comes as a big boost for the Reds if they are looking to bring in Aouar.

Do LFC need Aouar?

Liverpool saw Goerginio Wijnaldum leave for PSG this summer. Since then, the club have only gone on and sold another midfielder in Marko Grujic, without seeing any incomings in that area.

Aouar can be the man to replace the Dutchman in Liverpool’s midfield. However, the Premier League opener against Norwich City would have posed a dilemma in the heads of many Reds fans.

While the club seems like they could do with a midfielder given Wijnaldum’s exit, the 3-0 win against the Canaries showed the depth in that area. Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, and Fabinho were all missing from the starting XI.

Despite that, the midfield trio of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner did a solid job, with wonderkid Harvey Elliott also coming on in the latter stages to play in an attacking midfield role.

If Ox and Keita keep themselves fit, maybe the Reds don’t have a need to splash the cash for Aouar this summer, however enticing a potential transfer may look like.
