Peter Crouch feels Liverpool need another big signing

According to BT Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Peter Crouch was of the opinion that Liverpool could do with another big signing. The former Liverpool striker felt that a new signing would lift the spirits around the side. He pointed to rivals such as Manchester United and Chelsea signing star names such as Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Romelu Lukaku.

Liverpool have rarely been the gung-ho sort when it comes to transfers. They seemed to have signed players when absolutely need and if the said players can improve the side. Over the last two windows, things have been rather quiet from their end. The most notable signings have been Thiago Alcantara last season and Ibrahima Konate during this one.

With Konate’s signing wrapped up even before preseason, Liverpool have kept quiet in the following months. They are yet to sign another name which means they have arguably been the quietest side among the top Premier League contenders recently. United have flexed their financial muscle to land the star duo of Sancho and Varane (h/t Daily Mail).

Chelsea and Manchester City weren’t behind with names such as Lukau and Jack Grealish moving to the respective club (h/t Daily Mail). A former striker of ours expressed a bit of concern regarding the same and was of the opinion that perhaps Liverpool could do with another marquee signing.

Manchester United signed Sancho and Varane in the summer.

”When a new signing walks through the door, when Lukaku. Sancho and Varane walk through the door (it lifts everyone). If they (Liverpool) signed Lukaku, you’re talking about them being front runners for the title. hey haven’t signed anyone, they’ve got Konate but they haven’t really gone out and got someone. This squad still has the quality to be title contenders.

‘When someone walks through the door, when Shevchenko and Ballack walk through the door, when Torres walks through the door, it lifts training. But with van Dijk, when the full-backs bomb forward when the strikers bomb forward, when they look back and see him there it’s a big lift to the whole team.’

It shouldn’t really be worrying that Liverpool have not signed another name. The squad is in pretty good shape and with so many injury returnees such as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, there seems to be enough depth in almost all positions. From the looks of it, Liverpool don’t really need new signings with two statement wins over Norwich and Burnley.
