According to an interview done by Andy Robertson on Liverpooolfc.com (h/t Liverpool Echo), the Scotsman could be fit for the game against Chelsea on Saturday.
The 27-year-old, who recently committed his future to the club until 2026, was out for the club’s season opener as he suffered an ankle ligament injury in pre-season during a match against Athletic Bilbao. This was rather unfortunate for the Reds as it was the only game the Scot started during the club’s entire pre-season campaign.
However, Robertson has made a quick recovery as the player was also named on the bench for the game against Burnley last Saturday. Talking to Liverpoolfc.com (h/t Liverpool Echo), the full-back claimed that he thought he would be ready for the Burnley game ‘as soon as he saw the scan’ post his injury.
He went on to add (h/t Liverpool Echo):
“I’m back in full training now. I fully trained on Friday, just one day before the (Burnley) game.”
Robertson also talked about how he has been fortunate enough to not have as many injuries in his career and how he wanted to be ‘involved’ in the Burnley game. However, in a boost for many Liverpool fans, the player confirmed that he would be ‘ready to play’ against Chelsea on Saturday.
“Now I’ve trained today and I’ll have a full week of training so, let’s see what happens against Chelsea. But I’ll be ready, I’ll be ready to play, and like I said I’ll hopefully be fit for the rest of the season now.”
The Reds, who won their season opener and their game against Burnley last weekend, sit second in the table behind Chelsea, with both clubs sharing the same goal difference and points tally.
Thus, in what is suspected to be a hotly contested tie, Jurgen Klopp will be pleased to have one of his main men back to full fitness and ready to play from the off.
