Liverpool are keen on completing a deal for Mikkel Damsgaard

According to Il Secolo XIX (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool have been scouting Mikkel Damsgaard and are now ready to make a move for the 21-year-old.

Liverpool scouts were spotted at a Sampdoria game earlier this week as the Reds were only said to be looking at the player. However, it looks like the Merseyside club are now interested in orchestrating a move for the youngster as they look to add more depth to their frontline.

Although Liverpool do have the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota, and Divock Origi in their squads, they have recently lost Xherdan Shaqiri to Lyon and the Reds could be looking to fill that vacancy.

Damsgaard could join Liverpool this summer

Damsgaard featured heavily for Sampdoria last season as he went on to make 37 appearances in Serie A, helping the Italian outfit secure a 9th place finish in the league. However, it is at the Euros where the 21-year-old really shone as he featured in five out of Denmark’s six games.

The Dane managed to score 2 goals at the tournament, with the last one being an incredible free-kick against England in the semi-finals, although they went on to lose the game in extra time.

A winger by nature, Damsgaard could provide direct backup to the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, who could be unavailable for the entire month of January due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Sampdoria are said to be willing to let the player leave for £34million, and the Reds are now planning a ‘decisive assault’ transfer plan, according to IL Secolo XIX (h/t Express).

However, Liverpool have to move fast if they to complete a deal for the 21-year-old before deadline day i.e., 31st of August.
